DESCRIPTION

signed Philips' Sun-Dial' with inscription For use in all parts of the world London George Philip & Son 32 Fleet Street E.C Liverpool 45-51 Castle Street, Made in Germany, consisting of a square wooden base plate covered with black paper with inset compass well. With mounted turned ebonized column supporting an arc with a degree scale divided 0-70, from which a small plummet hangs. The arc has a slot where the meridian arc is fitted which carries a broad equinoctial ring which bears the hour scale divided VI-XII-VII. The meridian and equinoctial rings are adjusted for latitude by placing the wire, which runs from either end of the meridian, against the appropriate degree of latitude on the arc scale. With original paper covered card box on which the dial would stand, with directions for use printed to interior; together with a modern metal pendant sundial for the latitude of Strasbourg 48º 35, France, 1983, signed UNGERER; (2 pieces.)
