Lovely little item that is not only useful today but still made! Easy to use and impress - beats sticking a wet finger in the air and humming to yourself.

Pocket Forecaster

Made out of an early plastic (Ivorine) by Negretti & Zambretti of London at the beginning of the 20th century. This is in excellent condition and comes complete with the original case (not so good condition) and instructions.

Set the first disc's arrow - Set Wind - to the wind direction. Set the second ring to the barometric pressure. Now the windows will show a letter in each of the Falling, Steady or Rising areas. Turn over and with that letter read off the forecast!
55mm diameter by 3mm thick. Weighs 106g.
£50.00
Exactly the same, and same condition as the one to the left - but it has no box or original instructions.

This is a new version, made of plastic of the ones above. It is slightly bigger and therefor easier to read. It only has the one maker's name - Negretti - but otherwise is a faithful copy. As it should be because it is so clear and easy to use.

Pocket Barometer

The barometer is compensated (for altitude) and the adjustment screw is on the back. Pressure is always read at sea level, hence the adjustment to your altitude compensates. This scale, in feet, is around the outside of the face. The pressure is then read in inches. The glass front rotates and has a magnifying area for greater accuracy.
55mm diameter by 18mm thick maximum. Weighs 106g.
£325.00
The atmosphere gives us weather. Barometers measure the changing pressures then forecasts and predictions can then be made. Antique in leather cases, plastic dials. Beautiful precision!
A barometer is a scientific instrument used in meteorology to measure atmospheric pressure. Pressure tendency can forecast short term changes in the weather. Numerous measurements of air pressure are used within surface weather analysis to help find surface troughs, high pressure systems, and frontal boundaries.
